Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 15, 2026

CleanFile is built around privacy-focused file processing. This policy explains what information may be processed when you use the site, how we handle it, and the privacy principles that guide our development decisions. We are committed to being transparent about data practices because privacy is the core purpose of our product.

1. File processing and local architecture

CleanFile is designed to process supported files entirely in your web browser using client-side JavaScript. When you select a file for metadata detection or removal, the file data is read locally by browser APIs and processed by our JavaScript code running on your device. No file content or file data is transmitted to any server as part of the metadata scanning or cleaning workflow. We do not require account registration to use the core file-cleaning features. There is no upload queue, no cloud storage, and no temporary server-side file cache. Your files remain on your device at all times during processing.

2. Information we may collect

We may collect limited operational information to maintain and improve the service: • Basic analytics: anonymous page view counts and general usage patterns to understand which features are used and where improvements are needed. • Error reports: if a JavaScript error occurs during file processing, anonymized error details (error type and stack trace, without file content) may be captured to help us fix bugs. • Contact messages: information you voluntarily include when you email us for support or feedback. We do not collect, store, or have access to the content of files you process using CleanFile.

3. Contact messages and communication

If you email us at [email protected], we will use the information in your message solely to respond to your inquiry, investigate the issue you reported, or consider the feature you requested. We do not add your email address to marketing lists, sell contact information to third parties, or use your message content for purposes unrelated to your inquiry.

4. Cookies, local storage, and browser data

CleanFile may use essential browser storage mechanisms — such as cookies, localStorage, or sessionStorage — for the following purposes: • Language preference: remembering your selected interface language across visits. • PWA functionality: caching application assets for offline use through service workers. • Product behavior: storing minimal settings required for the tool to function correctly. We do not use tracking cookies for advertising profiles. If third-party advertising services are integrated, those services may set their own cookies subject to their own privacy policies, and this policy will be updated to reflect that.

5. Third-party services

CleanFile may integrate third-party services for analytics, advertising, or infrastructure purposes. These services operate under their own privacy policies. Currently, the site is hosted on Cloudflare's network, which may collect standard web server logs (IP addresses, request timestamps) as part of normal CDN and security operations. If advertising networks are integrated in the future, they may use cookies or similar technologies to serve relevant ads. Any such integration will be disclosed in an update to this policy.

6. Data retention and security

We keep operational data only as long as reasonably necessary for security monitoring, debugging, abuse prevention, and service maintenance. Contact message records are retained for the purpose of providing support and are not kept indefinitely. We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited data we do collect. However, no internet transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's privacy

CleanFile is a general-purpose utility tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the tool requires no account registration and processes files locally, minimal personal data is involved in normal use.

8. International users

CleanFile is accessible globally. By using the service, you acknowledge that any limited operational data we collect may be processed in the jurisdiction where our infrastructure is hosted. Because file processing happens entirely in your browser, your file data is never transferred across borders by our service.

9. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding the personal data we hold about you, including the right to access, correct, or request deletion of that data. Since CleanFile collects minimal personal data and processes files locally, most users have minimal data footprint with our service. For any data-related requests, contact us at [email protected].

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as our service evolves or as legal requirements change. Material updates will be reflected on this page with a revised date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your privacy.
