Why Scan Your Folders for Hidden Metadata?
Every photo you take, every document you create, and every video you record can embed hidden metadata — GPS coordinates, your name, device details, timestamps, and more. When you share these files, you may unknowingly expose personal information.
CleanFile's folder scanner lets you audit an entire directory at once. Instead of checking files one by one, simply select a folder and get an instant privacy report showing which files contain sensitive metadata. Everything runs locally in your browser — no files are ever uploaded.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does scanning upload my files to a server?
No. All scanning happens entirely in your browser using the File System Access API. Your files never leave your device — not a single byte is transmitted.
Which browsers support folder scanning?
The File System Access API is supported in Chrome, Edge, and Opera. Firefox and Safari do not yet support this API. If your browser is not supported, you can still use CleanFile to scan individual files.
Can I remove all detected metadata at once?
The folder scanner is a read-only audit tool — it shows you which files contain metadata. To remove metadata, go to the home page and drop the specific files there to clean them.
Does CleanFile scan subfolders?
Yes. CleanFile recursively scans all subfolders within the selected directory, checking every supported file type for hidden metadata.
